How it works
How points are counted and where the photos come from.
How to play
A photo appears. Drop a pin where the landmark is.
You can move the pin as often as you like. Lock it in to see the answer.
The answer screen shows the name, country, a one-line description, the answer pin, a line to your pin, and the distance.
After five photos you get a total.
Using the map
Drag to move the map. Pinch or scroll to zoom.
Zoom in to place your pin more precisely.
Scoring
Distance is the shortest path over the globe (great-circle distance).
Points fall as the distance grows. The formula is shown below.
Examples
0 km scores 5000. 500 km scores 3894.
1000 km scores 3033. 2000 km scores 1839.
4000 km scores 677. 10000 km scores 34.
The most you can score in a day is 25000.
points = 5000 x e^(-d / 2000)
The same five every day
The five photos are set by the date. Everyone sees the same ones on the same day.
A country appears at most once a day.
The date changes at midnight Korea time.

Photo and map sources
The landmark list, names and coordinates come from Wikidata.
Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under open licenses. Photos centered on people are left out.
Each photo's author and license are shown on the answer screen with a link to the Commons page.
Photos load straight from Wikimedia servers.
The world map is drawn from Natural Earth country borders (public domain). No outside map server is used.
